Professor Libby Roughead, from University of South Australia, recently shared some of her valuable experiences and topical insights into the issue of medication management at CMCRC with selected industry partners and researchers.
Professor Roughead is the lead academic on medication management in the proposed Digital Health CRC. The result of the first round bid for the innovative new centre is to be announced in the first week of October from AusIndustry.
The aim of this workshop was to garner a better shared understanding of what industry partners thought were the key challenges that needed addressing with the CRC. Host Professor Roughead said she was pleased and encouraged by the spirit of cooperation of the participants, which shows the value of holding such industry focused workshops.
Some of the key industry issues and opportunities to emerge were:
- Empowering patients to ‘own’ their own health information.
- Standardisation of medicines reporting in both the private and public systems.
- A range of systemic issues, from reimbursement models to splitting the role of diagnosis from prescribing.
There were plenty of innovative ideas around tools for empowering patients and improving the system. We are excited about taking these ideas forward, should the Digital Health CRC bid be successful next year.
Many thanks to Professor Roughead and the various industry and research participants who made this event such a success.
