In a nutshell, my job is to…
Meet with stakeholders to talk about their great ideas for advancing digital health, put them in touch with others who can help them turn it into reality, and build a plan to make it all happen.
The key things I bring to my digital health role are…
A ‘get things done’ attitude, great organisational skills, and twenty years of program and project management experience in modernisation and IT projects, and a knack for navigating issues and challenges with dedication and a smile.
Before joining Digital Health CRC I worked…
All over the world as a business analyst and consultant, living in Brazil and Singapore, managing various digital modernisation and transformation projects, most recently for IBM Watson Health in the government, health and human services sector.
The question I hear most often in my work is…
Is your name pronounced ‘Meg-an’ or ‘Me-gan’ and how to spell my surname – I tell them – it’s like ‘spewin’ with an N!
The top three things on my to-do list today are…
Gym (always first on the list!)
Coffee
Research and dive into projects to understand where they are at and meet relevant project parties.
The area of health technology that most interests me is …
Getting systems to talk to one another and sharing data to provide meaningful insights. Why on earth do I have to keep telling every hospital or doctor which drugs I am allergic to!
I’m also passionate about promoting early cancer diagnosis. Over eight years ago I was with friends, wearing a strappy dress on a sunny Thursday, out at Adelaide oval watching the Test match between Australia and the West Indies. A random stranger tapped me on the back, told me he was a doctor and thought I had a melanoma on my back. The next day I went to my own doctor and by Monday I was having the first of three surgeries to remove 10 cm of circumference around the cancer. I was lucky, thanks to that random stranger they got it early.
Outside work, you’ll find me…
Spending time with my husband Dan and our six-year old daughter Ivy, catching up with friends and eating yummy food and drinking locally made wine and gins – we are so spoilt here in South Australia. (I’m spoilt too as Dan does most – oh ok, all of our cooking). Focussing on finalising our plan for building a new house this year and watching any series on renovations on Netflix.
